The Pet Doctor

Q. 2) A recently released film called The Pet Doctor is causing quite a stir among film critics because it is just so bad. It has been criticised for nearly everything, like the acting, the plot and the camera work. In fact hardly anyone has a good word to say about it. Q. 1) I feel that although the acting in general is very disappointing, this is surprising because Q. 4) the main actor, Herman Gross, has done some fine work in the past, most notably on the New York stage last winter in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. So it is a mystery why he would be involved in a film like this and invite so much criticism.

The plot is very shallow. It involves a small town doctor who soon realises that treating the local pets is more lucrative than treating humans . Q. 5) He then takes the obvious step of becoming a pet doctor, which means that all the local children love him. The villains of the story are the police who react strongly when it comes out that he is not licensed to work with animals, and take him into custody while a sick animal needs attention. The power of kids in such moments should never be underestimated and they manage to save their hero. It is not the worse film ever made, but equally it is a long way from being the best. It is so very limited on all fronts that Q. 3) I would urge you to give it a miss, but I am sure kids, who don't really care about all that, will love it.
