There are some common ways of using LIKE that need explanation.

LOOKS LIKE only discusses physical appearance.
For example:
Your brother LOOKS LIKE a star.

IS LIKE discusses the subject's personality.
For example:
he IS LIKE his father.

LIKES is a verb which discusses tastes.
For example:
I think he LIKES beer.
