USED TO, WHEN.

Theory:

USED TO is used to describe actions that happened in the past but no longer happen.
EXAMPLE:
When I was 10 I spoke Spanish.
I am 30 now, and don't speak Spanish any more.
so, I USED TO speak Spanish.
or, I spoke Spanish WHEN I was 10.

In the positive form, the construction is USED TO
In the negative form, it is DIDN'T USE TO
In the question form, it is DID YOU USE TO?
Notice only the positive form has a 'D' at the end of USED.

USED TO can be replaced by WHEN in a sentence.

I USED TO live in Madrid when I was 5.
WHEN I was 5 I lived in Madrid.
