FEW, LITTLE, MANY, MUCH, A LOT OF, LOTS OF


Theory:

FEW, LITTLE, MANY, MUCH and A LOT OF are used to describe quantities of countable and uncountable nouns.

FEW is used for countable nouns.
When used without A it ihas a negative meaning.
When used with A it has a positive meaning.
EXAMPLE:
I have A FEW friends, which means I have some but not many.
I have FEW friends means I have nearly no friends.

The same applies to LITTLE, which is used for uncountable nouns.
I like LITTLE music, which means I don't like most music.
I like A LITTLE music means I like some music.

A FEW and A LITTLE are nearly always used with ONLY.
EXAMPLE:
I have ONLY A FEW minutes, and I have ONLY A LITTLE time.

FEW and LITTLE are used for small quantities.
MANY and MUCH are used for large quantities.

MANY is used for countable nouns and MUCH is used for uncountable nouns.
EXAMPLE:
I have MANY friends, but I don't have MUCH money.

MANY and MUCH both mean A LOT OF or LOTS OF.
EXAMPLE:
I have MANY friends or I have A LOT OF friends or I have LOTS OF friends.

MUCH is normally only used for negative sentences and questions.
A LOT OF or LOTS OF is better for positive sentences.
EXAMPLE:
I have A LOT OF time .
I don't have MUCH time.
Do you have MUCH time?
