PLURAL NOUNS

Theory

Normally, the plural forms of nouns are formed by adding an S, so the plural of DOG is DOGS.

This is not always the case.
For nouns which end in CH, SH, S, X AND Z, an ES is added to make the plural, so the plural of CHURCH is CHURCHES.
For nouns which end in a vowel and a Y, an S is added to make the plural, so the plural of DAY is DAYS.
For nouns which end in a consonant and a Y, the Y changes to I and an ES is added, so the plural of BODY is BODIES.
For nouns which end in F or FE, the F changes to V and an ES is added, so the plural of LIFE is LIVES, and the plural of WOLF is WOLVES.
For nouns which end in a vowel and an O, an S is added to make the plural, so the plural of RODEO is RODEOS.
For nouns which end in a consonant and an O, ES is added to make the plural, so the plural of HERO is HEROES.
Some plural nouns have the same form as the singular noun, so the plural of FISH is FISH.
Other plural nouns are completely different from the singular nouns, so the plural of WOMAN is WOMEN.
